Valentine's Day...

I have always wondered about Valentine's Day. Why is it that we need a "special" day to show those closest to us that we love them? Is it a day to just boost Hallmark sales? flower sales? Now, don't get me wrong. I am a girl who loves to give (and receive, but prefer to give) cards and flowers, but I am also one who feels like I don't need a "special" day to let those dear to me know how much I really love them. To me, it is not the "stuff" but rather the simple things that make my heart swell with joy. I love when my husband tells me "I love you" or when my daughter lays her head on my shoulder while watching some T.V. together, and how can I forget my puppy-son who only knows unconditional love for me? It's the simple things ~ watching nieces and nephews giggle, surprising someone with an unexpected something in the mail (this stems from my single-mom days), wearing my Daddy's Little Girl charm around my neck (have done so since high school); and ultimately it is the one BIG thing in my life that shows true love..that Jesus, my Savior, would die for my sins. He loves me from one scarred hand to another..endlessly and unconditionally.

So Hallmark or floral department, I enjoy your services, but when all is said and done, I feel I can truly convey my words on my heart without your assistance. Thank you for being there as a back-up now for me!

This Valentine's Day has been kind of discouraging for me. I have been sick all day! Did not get to attend church and did not get to spend time with my 5th grade girls I teach. But despite all this, I am SO thankful for my daughter, Amanda, who stepped into my place this morning and still allowed my girls to have a great little Valentine's Day fun at church. I love all my girls dearly and hope they enjoyed their morning with Amanda and my co-leader, Jennifer.

Here's a little recap of my family's day through pictures:

*chocolate - to my funky monkey of a daughter! I love you!

*I am bananas over you, Sweet Amanda
*sweets (sugar-free) for my Sweet-Sweet

*goodies from my 5th grade girls. Thank you girls SOO much for brightening my day! I love you

*flowers (yes, I love flowers). The purple/pink ones are from Larry to me, and the white carnation in the front is from Larry to Amanda.

*gift I made for my 5th grade girls

*I heart you

*my puppy-son, Albert.

Hoping everyone had a wonderful day with family and friends. Remember, it doesn't take a "special" day to let those dear to you know how much you love them :)
